If there’s anywhere I can get the help and credit I deserve, I would think it would be on tumblr.
On June 28th, I was blessed with the once in a lifetime opportunity of intimately photographing Erykah Badu, Yasiin Bey f.k.a. Mos Def, Spike Lee, Chuck D and a host of other celebrities at Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing 25th Anniversary Block Party.
This service was requested by Miss Badu herself. She found me in the crowd wearing Badu merch and asked to borrow my camera to get a shot of me. She then took a selfie of the two of us.
She and her security guards then allowed me on stage to be her personal photographer for the day. She later asked me to send her the shots when I got home. Caught up in being a fan, I sent her the pictures without question and without watermark.
She later used the image, but I never received any form of credit. After her posting, the photo went viral. It was on every social media network and I received word that it was even being used by Essence Magazine.
As you can see I’m in the background of every external picture taking pictures.
I love Erykah Badu, and refuse to believe that not giving credit was not a purposeful act. I just want my photo cred.
